Description

George Jackson Churchward. Born at Stoke Gabriel near Totnes in 1957, died on 19th December 1933 when struck by a South Wales express train near his Swindon home. He was apprentice engineer to the South Devon railway from Totnes Grammar School. When the South Devon railway was taken over by the Great Western in 1876, he was transferred to the GWR Swindon drawing offices. He became GWR's Chief Engineer in 1902.
