Description
A 'tintype' is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal (actually iron, not tin) coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. Popular in the 1860's and 70's in America. This image was later hand painted (Also see H.140 and H.141)
