In 1880, he is a boarder, along with his brother Andrew in a house in Nevadaville,Colorado, USA. They were staying with Mary Grenfell (nee Walls, widow of William Grenfell) and her son William age 6. This was the boarding house she set up for the Cornish miners in the area. Neccessary after her husbands death in order to make a living.
