George Gibb was born in 1827, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the son of Harry William Scott Gibb and Ramsey Eliza Couper.
He married Caldwell's Aunt, Constance Amelia Browne in 1857 at Usselby, Lincolnshire. They had six children.
They lived in Kensington, London where he was an East India and China merchant.
He died in 1901.
