Rev. George Harpur (the father of Caldwell Harpur) was born in 1828 to Elliott Harper (1790-1875) and Elizabeth in Pollyernan, Castlederg, Tyrone, Ireland.
In 1861 we find him as a curate in South Clifton, Nottingham. He married Miriam Ellen Browne on 16 August 1864 in Usselby, Lincolnshire. They had seven children in 14 years. Caldwell being the eldest.
He died on 10 July 1899 at South Clifton, at the age of 71.
