The American Line steamer Paris (10,699 t), on passage from Cherbourg to New York with 370 crew and 386 passengers went ashore in fog on Lowland Point, near Coverack, the Lizard, on 21 May 1899. There were no casualties, and the vessel was successfully towed off seven weeks later and repaired. Side view of ship from shore, with tugs and small craft alongside
