Description
The Abernyte was a 700-ton Glasgow iron barque. The master of the ship was Master Cardwell.
She wrecked on course from Caleta Buena to Falmouth with nitrates under Rill Head on May 8th 1898. Her crew rowed seawards, leaving the barque slowly settling below the cliffs, and were picked up at dawn by Falmouth pilot cutter No. 6.
The Abernyte launched at Dumbarton in 1875 by Mackellar & Co, broke up in heavy ground seas during the evening.
