Serena Wadham became involved in a campaign to support Charlie Welsh, a rag-and-bone man who kept horses, ponies and other animals at a former builder's yard. It was popular with local children, and there was considerable protest when Charlie was threatened with eviction (and briefly imprisoned) because of rent and rates arrears.
