Road opened by Princess Alexandra of Wales 24 July 1865 designed by John Matthews Borough Surveyor, The Granite Lamp Post with drinking troughs on either side records this fact. Was removed to Mennae Sports field after World War II

Camberwell Street had its own Carnival and Carnival Queen. After the houses were demolished the area was used by Penzance Town Council as a yard. New houses were built on the site in 2021.
