From time to time, the dredger would visit Newlyn, operating inside the harbour and nearby. Dredged material was tipped into a barge alongside; when full, it was towed well down into Mount's Bay and dumped on shoal ground.

Newlyn fishwives and their wicker baskets, called Cowals, congregate near the entrance to the North Pier near the Newlyn Post Office (then the Coastguard building also now at the back of the Newlyn harbour offices).

Tall granite building near the old bridge. Replaced in 1906 after fire. Was Carters house and bakery. Restored and now houses Warrens Bakery and Lenterns butchers shop. Small buildings extreme left now the Newlyn chemist shop.
