Originally only two men manned Lighthouse, so if one died the other was alone on the rock. Since then four men have been employed in the Service, three on the Lighthouse, one on shore

Relief Keepers replying to message from Longships re sick Keeper Griffiths - Relief Boat unable to sail due to stormy weather

A keeper on Longship was sick and needed to be relieved but rough seas were hampering the rescue.
