Polwithen House was built for the banker William Bolitho about 1870. It was sold in 1902 to become the hotel.
In 1918 the Penzance Church of England High School for girls took over the premises.
This is next to the Passmore Edwards Art Gallery (built in 1895 in memory of John Opie, artist)
