Title

Wreck of Vert Prarial

Description

The French trawler Vert Prarial had left Brixam at 6pm on the 13th March 1956. Nothing more was heard from her, other than a weak distress signal prefixed by the call sign "Dieppe 1517". At 5.45 am on the 14th the Coastguard received a telephone call from Porthcurno, to say a local man, out looking for driftwood on Porth Chapel beach, had come across a trawler with DP1517 on her bow. There were no survivors. The captain and most of the 17 crew were found drowned, these were taken back to France in another French trawler. It was assumed that she had gone ashore when her engine failed in the storm. Taken from wreck site: https://wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?76006
