Description
The Bideford ketch Cecilia became the last sailing ship to be wrecked in St. Ives Bay. Manned by Captain Frederick Bennett of Ilfracombe, and his sons John and Arthur, she broke loose while discharging coal from Lydney alongside Smeatons Pier during a NNW gale on January 25th 1935 and leaving a trail of destruction in the crowded harbour, drifted on to Pedn Olva Point.
Launched by Daniel Le Seurer of Jersey in 1867, she was the last Channel Islander in the Newfoundland Cod trade when sold in 1914.
