St Columb Major parish church is dedicated to the Celtic Saint Columba who is said to have been martyred nearby.
The site has been occupied by some form of church for over a thousand years and the current church dates back to the 12th century. It is a large church with the attached tower having the unusual feature of an archway running under it.
