Title
Bonfire pile at Sandy Cove, Newlyn for King George VI Coronation.
Description
The scene is Sandy Cove area behind the South Pier at Newlyn Town. This is the preparation for the bonfire celebrating the coronation of King George VI. Many locals from that part of the village helped to construct this pile over several days. There was often a large bonfire here on November 5th (Guy Fawkes day), but not quite this size.
There was a very close community in those days and you knew just about everyone you met in the street. Also, people rarely moved home. Most people attended the Methodist Church at Gwavas Road with some event most evenings of the week.
