Title
View from the start of Newlyn's North Pier across to the whole of Newlyn Town.
Description
Both harbour walls are existing which indicates the date is at least 1895 but before 1905 when the harbour road was built. The harbour is full of sailing vessels.
Top, small white building, top central is Penzer House. The large row below, top central, is Sambo's Row - these cottages were used by Alec Walker of Crysede as his factory for the silk textile business. A glimpse of a double wheel on the vessel in the right foreground is aboard of the diving vessel, used to pump air down to the diver in those days, dressed in a canvas suit with heavy metal helmet.
Fields to the left in the picture were later to become the site for the Gwavas Estate, built from 1938 onwards.
