Charles and Walter set up together as landscape and architectural image photographers in 1863 in the Polytechnic Portrait Rooms in Falmouth. Charles had most of his children embroiled in the business but family disputes ensured that after 1870 the business eventually failed. The brothers separated and eventually started up again on their own.
Walter started again as an Artist and assistant to another photographer whilst Charles began again as a photographer on his own.
