Description

Shows entrance to Jack Lane. This was once the main thoroughfare from Penzance going up Chywoone Hill (Paul Hill) before the construction of the New Road and road bridge in 1883. Cottages to extreme right were demolished and now form part of Street-an-Nowan car park. Left leads to Newlyn Town and Mosehole. Building in centre with two first floor windows was Elsie Bakers greengrocers and general stores in the 40's and 50's. Central Newlyn area sometimes referred to as the Strand, being the foreshore before pier and outgouses were built.
