Newlyn
A large steam-driven vessel around inside the Old Medieval Pier at Newlyn.
Fore Street is above left; the Harbour road is in the far right.
The vessel looks like as East Coast mackerel drifter but may be another commercial vessel converted, etc.
Has a port registry number of F5223 recorded at Faversham, which is a town 10 miles from Canterbury, next to the Swale, which is a tidal channel of the Thames estuary that separates the Isle of Sheppey from the rest of Kent.

Before the building of Newlyn Harbour, 1885-1895.
Vessels anchored in Gwavas Lake at low tide. Fish landings would have to be brought ashore in small punts. Fish-hawkers or 'Jousters' are waiting on the beach.

The South Pier at Newlyn with the lighthouse.
Two Mounts Bay luggers leaving the harbour. The vessels appear to have St Ives registration numbers (SS). The South Pier was built in 1885 and lengthened by about 100 feet in 1914. The Tidal Observatory Hut was added next to the lighthouse in 1915. (Present image is before these latest alterations.)
