View of the Tolcarne area of Newlyn, 1895-1900
Bridge in foreground is the Medieval Bridge; in background is the Old Bridge. The block of houses on left is Florence Place. The blacksmith's shop is behind the pole and was owned by Howard Rowe in the 1930's-50's. Area prone to flooding. Two large rocks placed on the Medieval Bridge allowed pedestrians to cross but discouraged traffic.

Brunel's Viaduct Crossing Victoria Gardens, Truro.
Bridge
Viaduct
The Brunel viaduct crossing Victoria Gardens, Truro, one of the longest of about 40 built in Cornwall by I.K. Brunel. This one, over 1200-feet in length and 150-feet high, was replaced by a granite structure in 1904. When the work was proceeding, Truro's cathedral was just being built and it was reported that the irreverent remarks passed between labourers on the two projects gave rise to letters in the local press complaining of their adjectives when engaged on a sacred building!
