Henry Browne 1800-1883 Description An account of the resource Henry Albert Browne, Caldwell Harpur's maternal grandfather, was born in 1800 in Torquay, Devon to William Loder Browne and Katherine Hunter. His interests were religion and classical languages and studied at Oxford in the 1820's. He later became rector at Toft in Lincolnshire, where he spent the rest of his life. He married three times, first to Frances Margaret Nicholson on 1st June 1830, and they had six children together. She died in 1838. He later married Eliza Ann Blake on 22nd Feb. 1845. She died in 1866. In 1870, when he was 70, he married Sarah Alice Casson. He died on 2nd. oct. 1883 at Caistor, Lincolnshire. Eliza Blake's photo is missing from the collection. He was born 8 Nov. 1884 at St. Columb, the son of Richard William Jolly, a tin miner, and Ethelberta Menear. In 1901 he was a trimmer in the clay works. By 1911 we see him practising as a Weslyan minister. In 1915 he obtained a ministerial appointment in Camelford. In the 1920's he went to live in Canada and was ordained in Montral in 1923. Two years later he came back to Cornwall where he held various curacies.. His last being at St Enoder. He retired to Carbis Bay where he died on 24 May 1963 and was burried at Towednack. He also had an interest in Cornish wrestling and wrote books on the subject. Title A name given to the resource Caldwell Harpur Family Album Description An account of the resource Caldwell Harpur, (born Elliott Calwell Harpur in Spalford, Nottinghamshire, England on 25 February 1866) kept very detailed diaries from his 14th to 73rd years. He left these to the Penzance (Morrab) Library with the wish that they should be published after his death (which was 27th January 1945). Also, donated was a large amount of correspondence and a family photo album. The photo album has been restored and rests safely in the Morrab Library Photographic Archive. All the photos in the album have now been scanned and can be seen here. Apart from a photograph of his father, Rev George Harpur, they are mostly images of his maternal relatives. Some are of views, servants and unknown people. A number are alas missing from the album. Where the identities are known a brief details are given. Still Image A static visual representation.
