Built in 1938 the art deco building was demolished in 2025 to make way for a housing development. Charlie Roff (1952-2017) an internationally renowned photographer was director of the gallery from the 1990s until his death and showed art and photography from local artists and from further afield. Throughout that time the cinema changed from a successful and bustling venue, before being taken over by Mecca Ltd. After Mr Quilter retired in 1964 it became a bingo hall.
